Democrats Pushed for Infrastructure Funds Past 6 Years – Blocked by GOP November 17, 2016Posted by Coonsey in Uncategorized.
President Elect Donald Trump is said to have in part won this election because of his plans to create jobs by passing a 1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill. I’d like to remind voters exactly who saved us from going into a Great Depression in 2009 and has been pushing for more funds since 2010 to repair even more of our infrastructure and to create jobs with.
President Obama, less than one month into his administration, February 17th, 2009, got Congress to pass the the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) that gave nearly 831 billion dollars for the direct spending in infrastructure, education, health, and energy, federal tax incentives, and expansion of unemployment benefits and other social welfare provisions. Only 3 Republicans supported the bill in the Senate. The bill included a protectionist ‘Buy American’ provision, which imposed a general requirement that any public building or public works project funded by the new stimulus package must use only iron, steel and other manufactured goods produced in the United States. For details visit the following website.
Nobel laureate Paul Krugman, while supportive of the law, criticized the law for being too weak. 82% of leading economists strongly agreed or agreed that unemployment was lower in 2010 than it would have been without the stimulus.
As for transparency, the President created the Recovery.Gov website where viewers could see where every dollar went in their own neighborhoods.
Republicans that voted against the bill, later tried to take credit for infrastructure being done in their States with the funds from the ARRA.
Since losing control of Congress in 2010, Democrats have continued to try and get more infrastructure funds to help create more jobs. The Republicans have blocked or voted down any bill that was brought forward.
In 2011 President Obama tried to get more jobs funding passed but failed because 47 of the Republicans in the Senate voted no: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/senate-blocks-60-billion-infrastructure-plan/2011/11/03/gIQACXjajM_story.html

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/12/a-major-infrastructure-bill-clears-congress/418827/ It was Democrats that got this bill passed.
Just this past April Democrats tried once again to pass a massive infrastructure bill, “Grow America Act”, Republicans as usual blocked it.
Now we are being told that one of the reasons Mr. Trump was elected was because he was going to create jobs by passing his 1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill. As just stated, President Obama and the Democrat Party has been trying to get this done for the past 6 years but because control of Congress was in the hands of Republicans they were unsuccessful.
Leaders of the Demcrats have already stated they will support Pres. Elect Trump’s bill and that it will be Republicans, once again, that will fight it. But with Trump supporting it, the bill will most likely, finally, be passed.
